2025 LCI Congress Preview Event: "Weird New Feeling" - Opening Day Preparedness
One of the initial milestones for our project at Boston Logan International Airport Terminal B was to open a newly refreshed passenger pick up area, adding 1,000 LF of passenger pick up space and deconflicting passenger vehicles and buses by November 21, 2024, one week before Thanksgiving.
Typically leading up to the final days before the completion of a milestone, contractors, designers, and owners would work long hours, overnight shifts, weekends, and making a lot of decisions at the last minute in order to open up the project on time. This project was different. This project had a sense of calm in the weeks leading up to the opening that was described as a “weird feeling”. There was no weekend work and no late days, which helped preserve the overall budget of the project. There were no last minute decisions that impacted the quality of the project. The team was able to fully execute the project in a timely and efficient manner due to the planning and coordination between all parties. The open line of communication is what kept the project moving forward and gave everyone that “weird” feeling the week of the opening. Unlike the feelings of extremely stressed or that they forgot something, it was a feeling of accomplishment that the milestone was completed successfully in a safe and efficient manner.
