CM-Lean Unit 1: Introduction to Lean Construction

AGC Lean Construction Education Program Second Edition (LCEP 2.0)

Objectives of the Lean Construction Education Program - The purpose of this program is to develop the participant’s level of awareness and understanding of Lean and Lean Construction practices and prepares you to take the CM-Lean credential exam. The focus will be to reach an understanding for construction phase practices and awareness of the other phases of project delivery. When we are done, in addition to being ready to take the credentialing exam, participants will have a foundation in Lean principles to start learning by doing Lean Construction practices relevant to the construction phase of a project. Some of these practices include: the Last Planner System, the PDCA cycle, problem-solving, waste removal, 5S, facilitation, planning for flow efficiency, and engaging people.

For this May 31, 2024 workshop, the first unit in the LCEP 2.0 (CM-Lean Unit 1) is offered and will cover the following:

  • Why Lean?
  • What is Lean & Respect for People
  • Generate Value, Remove Waste, & Optimize the Whole
  • Continuous Improvement

  • August 22nd – CM-Lean Unit 3 – 9:30am to 5pm; Brighton, MI (Location TBD)
  • September 20th – CM-Lean Unit 4a – 9:30am to 5pm; Kellogg Center, MSU – East Lansing, MI
  • November 21st – CM-Lean Unit 4b – 9:30am to 5pm; Kellogg Center, MSU – East Lansing, MI
  • December 12th - CM-Lean Unit 5 - 9:30am to 5pm; Kellogg Center, MSU – East Lansing, MI

Instructors:

  • LaShira Champion-King - Quality & Innovation Director, Walbridge is dedicated to improving project delivery, helping many construction project teams adopt the continual improvement mindset. She shares her knowledge and experience in providing value while minimizing waste. With over 20 years of experience, she is enthusiastic about helping people transform to make their project delivery excellent. LaShira is a member of the Core Team for the LCEP 2.0 revision.
  • Tariq Abdelhamid - Chief Lean Enterprise & Analytics Officer, Student Life and Engagement (SLE) Division at Michigan State University since 2013. He is also an Associate Professor of Lean Construction at MSU, and project teams coach since 2000. Trained by Greg Howell & Glenn Ballard (Lean Construction Institute co-founders), He is the co-founder and co-Editor of the Lean Construction Journal, a certified AGC LCEP 2.0 instructor, Improved LCI instructor, a current LCI Research Fellow, and a Project Management Professional.
