Imagine a future where old labels, old habits, old fears, and old ways of thinking are no longer in the way of our ability to solve complex problems. Imagine a scenario where engaging with diverse team members with diverse perspectives is energizing instead of draining.  Where passion replaces fear.  Unfortunately, much of the progress we have made in the last many years has focused on technology and process, but not people.   Integrated teams have so much more to offer because of their diverse backgrounds and expertise, and yet we have not figured out how to conquer the traditional professional culture clashes that continue to stymie our progress and best intentions, even as we have advanced our project delivery methods. It turns out that making the mental shift to integrated teaming remains our biggest challenge.  Our typical response when faced with complex challenges is to go back to the way it’s always been done, and therefore we keep getting better and better at making things worse.  This automatic tendency keeps us stuck and unable to jump the curve so we can take advantage of all the benefits that integrated design and construction offers.
